Saquon Barkley‘s move from the New York Giants to the Philadelphia Eagles has been a big point of contention this offseason. Joining a division rival team never sits well with your previous team’s fans, but he’s going back to the state where he spent most of his life.
Despite the hometown connection, Barkley has received criticism for his decision to sign with Philly. He has kept his statements professional and cordial, but he may have let some snark slip while telling a story about his daughter this week.
Barkley was giving an interview to the Eagles’ official media team for a YouTube video.
My daughter, funny story with her. She knows there’s a lot of history in my career with the Eagles… When I told her that we were going to be going to Philly, she was just like, ‘does that mean we’re going to win now?’ I just started smiling and said, ‘hopefully, hopefully we’re gonna win some more games’.
That won’t sit well with Giants fans. Even though it was Barkley’s young daughter who said it, the running back chose to share it publicly.
It’s harmless in nature, but we know how fickle NFL fans can be. And it just adds a little more fuel to the fire following Barkley’s departure from the team.
Barkley’s return to New York when the two teams square off next season will be can’t-miss TV.
