A Kansas City fan decided the Chiefs-Dolphins in Germany was the ideal setting to propose to his girlfriend. The moment was captured and posted by the NFL on X (formerly Twitter).
The fan had one knee on the turf and both hands on the ring in front of the 42,000-plus crowd. Moved to tears, his girlfriend enthusiastically nodded and said ‘yes’.
But in a hilarious turn of events, the fan got up and celebrated by hugging the Chiefs’ wolf mascot rather than putting the ring on his fiancee. The bride-to-be stood crying in joy as the crowd cheered and ‘Marry You’ by Bruno Mars played through the sound system.
Fans reacted to the clip on X, some of which admired the moment while others were concerned and joked about the celebration.
‘I had to rewatch this like five times to see if he actually had a ring,’ one fan said. ‘Usually you put the ring on the finger before you hug the mascot!!!’
‘Marriage is gonna be damn hot’ another fan commented.
The game in Frankfurt is the fourth of five games scheduled to take place in Europe this season.
The Chiefs and Dolphins both hold a 6-2 record on top of their respective divisions.
