It’s back to Buffalo for quarterback Mitch Trubisky and his family.
The former first-round pick and the Bills agreed to terms on a deal before the start of free agency next week, NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo reported Wednesday.
It’s a reunion for Trubisky, who spent the 2021 season in Buffalo as Josh Allen’s backup before moving on to Pittsburgh for the past two years.
In response to Wednesday’s news, Trubisky’s wife, Hillary, posted a celebratory message on her Instagram Story.
“Back to Buffalo,” Hillary wrote alongside a photo of the couple at Bills training camp. “Proud of you.”
Trubisky, 29, and Hillary spent part of their first year as a married couple in Buffalo after tying the knot in July 2021.
They welcomed son Hudson in May 2022, two months after the quarterback signed a two-year, $14.25 million deal with the Steelers.
Trubisky, the Bears’ second overall pick in 2017, opened the 2022 season as the Steelers’ starter over then-rookie quarterback Kenny Pickett.
During a Week 4 loss to the Jets, Trubisky was benched in the second half for Pickett, who was later named the starter.
Entering the 2023 season, Trubisky signed a two-year extension with the Steelers.
He was named the starter in Weeks 14 and 15 of the season after Pickett sustained a high-ankle sprain.
Trubisky struggled and Pittsburgh turned to Mason Rudolph, who led them to a wild-card spot.
The Steelers then released Trubisky last month
Trubisky has thrown 12,536 yards, 72 touchdowns and 48 interceptions in 69 career games.
The Bills, who knocked out the Steelers in the wild-card round of the playoffs in January, are undergoing a major roster overhaul in hopes of getting under the salary cap.
