If only Jalen Ramsey got traded to the Lions instead of the Rams, Giants receiver Golden Tate would have an opportunity to settle his personal beef much sooner.
Ramsey — one of the top cornerbacks in the NFL — made his relationship with a new girlfriend public Wednesday with a photo on Instagram. Ramsey had one child and a second on the way with Tate’s younger sister when he reportedly split with her over the summer in order to date a Las Vegas dancer.
“I’m not happy at all with the disrespect that he’s shown towards my sister, and the things he’s done in the past, but I don’t really want to go too much into it,” Tate told The Post.
Breanna Tate ran track and field at Ole Miss and was in a longtime relationship with Ramsey, a first-round draft pick of the Jaguars who is on the verge of a monster NFL contract.
Ramsey was unhappy with the Jaguars’ lack of financial commitment to him and essentially forced his way out of town by not playing in games because of injuries. He got healthy quick after a trade last week to the Rams, who figure to give him the money he desires.
A fan tweeted a story about the new couple to Tate’s attention with the message: “If I was @ShowtimeTate I would have words with this young fella.”
Tate replied on his verified Twitter account: “He know he gonna have to see me.”
It’s not the first time Tate and Ramsey have had an issue.
In August 2018, Ramsey took a shot at Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford’s skills. Tate defended his then-teammate by reminding media asking about the comment that the Lions beat the Jaguars and Ramsey was crying on the sideline when the teams last played..
The Giants and Rams don’t play until next season.
In the more immediate future, Tate is returning to Detroit this weekend. The Lions could be without their injured top cornerback Darius Slay.
After he was suspended for the first four games of the season under the NFL’s performance-enhancing drugs policy, Tate has become an important security blanket for rookie quarterback Daniel Jones.
“I don’t think it’s going to have much impact on me,” Tate said. “Just because I’m a pro. I know what I’m there to do: I’m there to play a game and try to help the Giants win.”
The Giants are 0-3 since he returned.
“It’ll be good to see those guys and say hi at the beginning or after the game, but anytime in between, I know that they’re going be trying to kick my tail and I’m going to be trying to kick their tail,” Tate said before laughing at a funny mental image. “That’s the nature of the game. So I don’t want to get caught up thinking, ‘Oh, I miss you so much,’ then get hit in the mouth.”
Tate turned down a contract extension from the Lions last season before he was traded to the Eagles just before the deadline. He had the best four seasons of his career — all with 90-plus catches, three with 1,000-plus yards — with the Lions.
“They have some of the most loyal fans in football, and very, very patient fans,” Tate said. “Every year the expectations are very, very high for the fan base and for the organization, and it’s been tough over the last 20-30 years really. But they live their sports, and they root for you through thick and thin. That’s one thing you’ve got to appreciate.”
The Giants signed Tate to a four-year, $37.5 million contract in free agency after trading Odell Beckham. It made worthwhile the gamble of turning down an extension.
“It just wasn’t a number that we thought I deserved or what I had earned. It wasn’t any hard feelings,” Tate said. “I wasn’t going to accept that offer.”
